In July 2012 Ian Parker participated in the Badwater Ultramarathon, the "World's toughest footrace". He was attempting a tenth finish, but was forced to drop after 55 miles owing to dehydration. He dedicated his efforts toward raising funds to support an Award in memory of Andrea Silvestri, who tragically passed away on May 19th, 2011. Andrea was the beloved husband of Melanie Matheu, a loyal member of Ian's Badwater support crew over seven years, including 2012. Andrea was to have joined Melanie on Ian's Badwater crew in 2011.
