This page is a work in progress, prompted by the realization that the Evanescent Light Galleries ( the only website I know where you can freely download >8000 full-resolution landscape images fo rpersonal use) receive around a thousand visitors per month, whereas sites dealing with camera equipment may receive many more than that in a single day. So it seems photographers are more interested in the gadgetry than in photographs...

My photographic philosophy is along the lines of 'your camera doesn't matter'. That is to say, the essence of a good picture derives from being in the right place, in the right light, and in then selecting a composition to communicate your vision of the scene. Nevertheless, the quality of the equipment does have some bearing, and the technical aspects of cameras, tripods, Photoshop etc., are fun.

For the moment, here is a listing of the photo gear I presently use;

Canon 7D II
Canon 5D MkIII
Canon 5D MkIV

Irix 11mm f/4 (super-wide on full-frame)
Rokinon 14 mm f/2.8 (very inexpensive, surprisingly good)

Canon 17 mm TSE L tilt/shift lens (thank you, Anne!)
Canon 10-22mm EFS zoom
Canon 50 mm f1.4
Canon-EF 24-105mm f4 L IS
Canon 100-400 L II (An amazing lens for wildlife/bird photography)
Canon 400 mm f4 DO II (The 'Big White'')
1.4x Canon extender

Canon M5
EFM 22mm f2
EFM 15-45mm

cable and IR shutter releases
remote interval timer (mostly for star-trail photography)

memory cards totalling ~1 TB

polarizing filter (Breakthrough Technology)
Singh-Ray graduated ND filters; 2 and 3 stop, hard edge
Solid ND 6- and 8-stop filters (Breakthrough Technology)
'Starburst' filter

Induro carbon fiber tripod
RRS BH45 ball-head
Gitzo fluid gimbal head
Lightweight Induro carbon fiber
travel tripod
RRS mounting plates for cameras and telephoto lens

iOptron SkyTracker Pro (for astrophotography)

Canon Speedlight 430EX with extension cord
High power Fenix LED flashlight (for light-painting)
Selection of colored gel filters
white/gold reflector

GPS unit
SPOT satellite locator beacon (reassurance when hiking alone in remote places)

Battery chargers
Macbook Air running Photoshop CS6 and DNG converter
AC adaptor for running from 12V car outlet.

Think Tank Airport Essentials camera backpack (fits under airline seat) to hold most of the above.

Microsoft Surface Studio II
5k retina iMac
Multiple 4 and 6 TB USB and eSATA external drives for backup
Samsung T5 external 2TB SSD
'Necklace' of 4 x 256 GB flash drives for secure backup when travelling
Photoshop CS6
Photoshop CC
Dreamweaver CC
Epson R3880 photo printer (Which now dribbles photo ink, but not matt black ink. If you know how to fix this, let me know!)
Canon Pro-100 photo printer
